Morning Inspiration 10/19/2010
"Your most precious, valued possessions and your greatest powers are invisible and intangible. No one can take them. You, and you alone, can give them, You will receive abundance for your giving." W. Clement Stone (1902-2002) "The Key of Love "To use love as the ultimate power in your life, you must love like you have never loved before. Fall in love with life? However much you have loved in your life, double that feeling, multiply that feeling by ten times, multiply it by a hundred, a thousand, a million, because that is the level of love you are capable of feeling! When you fall in love with life, every limitation disappears. You have no resistance and whatever you love appears in your life almost instantaneously. Opportunities will pour into your life, and your slightest touch will dissolve negativity. You will feel better than you thought it was possible to feel. You will be filled with unlimited energy, excitement and an unquenchable zest for life. do you fall in love with life? Whatever you're doing, wherever you are in your day, look for the things you love. Look for the buildings you love, cars and roads you love, cafes and restaurants you love, stores you love. Walk down a street or through a store with the intention of finding as many things as you can that you love. Look for things you love about other people. Look for everything you love in nature, birds, trees, flowers, perfumes and the colors of nature. See what you love. Hear what you love. Speak about what you love. "Love is the master key that opens the gates of happiness." Oliver Wendel Holmes (1809-1894) The Power by Rhonda Byrne The Next Step 10/13/2010
"All you can possibly need or desire is already yours. Call your desires into being by imagining and feeling your wish fulfilled. "Neville Goddard When you are really excited about anything that has happened, and you feel amazing, capture that energy and imagine your dream. Quick flashes of imagining and feeling your dream are all you need to harness the power of your excited feeling for what you want. This is fun. This is the joy of creating your life. (from "The Power" by Rhonda Byrne) Hellllooo Warriors, A little inspiration to start the day. I was in a bookstore and picked up" The Power" book and kept trying to put it back, but kept picking it up again, so finally I bought it. It has been life changing for me. It is by the same author as The Secret. You may want to get your own copy. How is the exercise and water consumption going? I am certainly more aware of it although still falling a little short. I will continue to focus on them both. I read a good tip for remembering to drink water, a tall glass every hour on the hour (with lemon). It really makes you realize how fast the hours go by. This week I would like to add the addition of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR. I know that some of you have experimented with it before and know why this is important. Natural, organic, raw, unfiltered, unpasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar or (ACV) (available at Two Farm Kids or any health food store) is a powerful cleansing and healing elixir- a naturally occurring antibiotic and antiseptic that fights germs, bacteria, mold and viruses - for a healthier, stronger, longer life! Versatility of ACV as a powerful body cleansing agent and weight reduction agent is legendary. It is loaded with potassium great for ridding the body of toxic waste and beta-carotene to fight free radicals and break down unwanted fat to aid in weight management. It also dissolves the uric acid deposits that form around your aching joints. Another great benefit of ACV is that it detoxifies both the bloodstream and various organs of the body. ACV acts as a purifier, breaking down fatty mucous and phlegm. It also assists your vital organs - kidneys, bladder and liver and promotes healthy blood flow to your heart, brain and entire body. Not to mention balancing PH and hormones. I could go on and on...many benefits, many testimonials. Google it if you like, also a good book is "Apple Cider Vinegar" by Patricia and Paul Bragg, available at Hedleys in the Shoppers Mall here in Brandon. There are many ways to take ACV depending on your condition. This is what I have been experimenting with. 2 tsp of ACV with honey to taste in a small cup of hot water. Drink in the morning and an hour before lunch and dinner. Sometimes I drink it last thing at night. You can also just drink 2 tsp in cold water and down it. I am getting used to the taste and finding it quite comforting. The diet and grocery list are to follow this week. I think it is good to take these little steps and work them into our life before we make the bigger step. "When you imagine anything positive that you want and love, you are harnessing the force of love. Push your imagination to the limits, and imagine the best and highest that you possibly can of whatever it is that you want." The Power Till next time...love Bridget The Power of Lemon Water 10/07/2010
Warrior Wellness Experiment! 10/05/2010
Warrior Wellness Experiment Hey folks, I am not sure if I told you before through one of my adventure blogs, but I am looking at hosting "Warrior Wellness Retreats in Mexico", similar to what we intended to do at Avalon (for those of you who had the opportunity to visit our retreat centre outside of Brandon). I have a beautiful retreat space in Mexico picked out. It is so special, right on the ocean. I have been dreaming about it for 10 years. So, in order to do this I would like to do a little wellness experiment right here in Brandon. My intention is to gather a group of people to follow a diet/lifestyle/mindset similar to what we have planned for Mexico (minus the swimming in the ocean). It is for people interested in getting healthy, happy and skinny. It would run from November 1 to November 29th. We will be focusing on fresh fruit and veggies, juices, protein shakes, whole grains, beans and nuts and seeds with one day of fasting, Mondays. We will incorporate the use of apple cider vinegar, which is an important body PH balancer. The routine would be based around a diet of no sugar, no wheat, no dairy, no junk, no packaged food and limited meat (if you have too). We will include daily excercise which could be of your choice (ie. walking or the excercise you already do) or you could participate in my "Flying Skirt" dance exercise hour which I will hosting in November. Kaleigh will also host a one day a week Yoga stretch class. We will focus on positive thinking which I will outline in the program. This will be free of charge. You will be asked to attend six discussion groups throughout the month on Mondays...to see how everyone is feeling. I know that it is not easy to stick to a strick diet at that time of year...so I will also be asking you to keep a daily journal and if you eat something not on the diet or don't excercise for a few days all you have to do is record it in your journal with the reason why and it will all be good. Kaleigh is making a Warrior Salad at Lady of the Lake if you want to eat out. I will outline the diet and your grocery list and all the things you can eat at home or on the run, you will not go hungry. At the end we will have a get together and recap the month and eat something really decadent. I think a group of around 20 would be perfect. And, I am doing this as much for me as I am for the study. It is always great to have support when focusing on things out of our daily routine. The first discussion will be Monday October 25th. I would suggest a time of around 5:00p.m. at Lady of the Lake. If this doesn't work for you let me know. The other discussions dates will also be Mondays at this time. The second one will be November 1, which will be our first fasting day with the final one on Monday the 29th (wa..hooo..big party!). If you are interested and would like "step two", which will be the month outline please return a "yes I am interested and why" to my personal email kimberleebridget@yahoo.ca. Men and women are welcome to sign up. If you have a really serious health issue, I would recommend seeing an alternative practitioner to get you on a vitamin program. I can recommend several in town. This would be a great addition to what we will be doing. Okay, the first twenty people to sign up will have an amazing experience in body, mind and spirit. We will be a great support team and feel and look fabulous at the end of the month. If you are in cyberland and would like to participate you may join via my personal email. Talk to you soon, love Bridget Take a Deep Breath! 10/04/2010
Okay, I am going to put on the yoga video right after I type my babble. I know it is good for me and I enjoy it once I get going, but it is so easy to find other important things to do. I have been reading lately the importance of breathing and know that when I do yoga I concentrate on the breath. In my Encyclopedia of Natural Healing it says, "Breathing is the key to increased energy and prolonged youth. Lack of oxygen negatively affects mood, concentration and energy as well as every organ in the body, especially the brain. Deep breathing will rejuvenate the mind and body when you feel tired and help prevent illness. Sixty-five percent of the human body - blood, organs, tissues and skin - consist of oxygen. They suggest, deep rhythmic breathing, aerobic exercises and high-oxygen food (raw fruits and vegetables) are essential to oxidation within the body. Deprivation of oxygen to the body encourages anaerobic microbes (organisms that live without oxygen) to proliferate. Cancer cells are anaerobic." Dr. Weil gives us a Relaxing Breath exercise. I find this one very helpful to slow me down and it especially helps when I am trying to fall asleep. 1. Close your mouth lightly. Inhale through your nose to the count of 4. 2. Hold your breath for the count of 7. 3. Exhale audibly (make a whoosh sound) through your mouth to the count of 8. Repeat for four breath cycles. Then breathe normally and notice any changes in how your body feels. Next babble I let you in on more healthy tips. I went to the Harvest Moon Festival last weekend and the weekend started out being so cold, I thought, only a Manitoban would camp in this weather, frost on the ground in the morning. But, Saturday turned out to be a beautiful fall day and they lit several bonfires on the grounds at night that were great to stand around. They played music by the fire ALL night, I was in my cozy camper of course with about 5 layers of blankets, one being a thick feather tick. On Sunday, after things had wound down, I participated in the best jam of my life. Some bluegrassers from outside Winnipeg and a few other odds and ends of people stood in a big circle and we played our little hearts out. At one point we paraded through town and over to the school where we finished with a hanging song...great for mornful harmonies. Thanks to all who put on the festival, it inspires me musically every year. Wwweell, best go and put on that yoga tape and do some breathing and stretching. What fabulous weather this week. Love to all and especially to your lungs...Bridget Just back from the big city! 08/30/2010
Bridget’s Adventures Just back from Toronto, Haliburton and Montreal and it is good to be home. It makes Brandon seem mighty small and I am grateful for that. Yes, there is all those cultural events, shopping and fine restaurants in the big cities but I wouldn’t trade it for a minute, actually it made me want to move to an even smaller place, like Newdale haha. What it also did was give me a renewed appreciation for Lady of the Lake, I know I am tooting my own horn, but really, there is none other like it…we care, we are loving, we appreciate you and we are unique in this world. So, please don’t take us for granted, you and I are very lucky to have this place to shop, dine and be entertained. Now, on to the juicy bits of the travels…Toronto, Cory and I worked very hard to search out all the fabulous new merchandise for the fall and “Christmas Around the World” season. We spent one day in downtown Toronto, walking through Kensington Market and a few other funky areas. At night I stayed with a couch surfing (couchsurfing.org, a travel network) friend, Nelson. He lived in the gay neighbourhood of TO and I got to experience my first drag queen shows. Wow, guys are girls and girls are guys and some you can’t tell which and isn’t it wonderful that we have a world where we can just be who we want to be. Nelson was super hospitable and took me to an interesting Japanese restaurant with an hour waiting line. They yelled in Japanese, hello, goodbye, and every dish of food that came from the kitchen, very noisy and fun. I didn’t really go for the raw salmon with the raw egg in it…but the rest was yummy. Then, I travelled off to Haliburton. A friend that I met in Mexico has a very homey country place complete with backyard swimming pool. It was such a relief to get to the country and be able to smell green and see blue. It was a lovely week of playing music with friends and laying by the pool. I had a small brush with fame…I go to be Dan Hill’s personal assistant for a concert at the “Forest Festival”. Do you remember Dan Hill…somehow when we touch, the honesty is too much, I want to hold you till the fear in me subsides…well, he has become a profession song writer and writes for Celene Dion and Back Street Boys and a few others. Nice gentleman with great hamstrings. Then off to Montreal to meet Christine and spend a week in our cute little apartment downtown. Every morning we enjoyed a lovely French breakfast on the upstairs balcony. It overlooked very rustic old apartments complete with laundry on the line. We checked out the Montreal show and ordered more great products and also walked and walked and walked around the city seeing sights and always talking about what we liked and what we didn’t like about the shops and restaurants. Trying to evaluate all the emotions we were experiencing so that we could bring home new ideas and incorporate them into Lady of the Lake. Best get back to business, and I am on babysitting duty for a couple of days. Have a bountiful fall. Love to all, Bridget A little fally? 08/02/2010
Yes, it has come and gone, July, the elusive month of summer. It is only August 2nd and already I feel a little fally (is that a word?). Plans are underway for the semi-annual trip to the Toronto Gift Show and we will also be taking in the Montreal Gift Show this year. I always love going to Montreal, feels so European. Because summer is a busy time for us at Lady of the Lake, it is not a typical holiday time for me although I managed to sneak in a week at music camp in Saskatchewan. It was fantasic to hang out with so many musicians and get fed three meals and two snacks a day. The food was pretty good, although I do prefer my salad and raw food to be the larger part of my meal. Plus, I try not to eat much sugar, I try and go with the one bite of dessert rule. I did try out my new travel trailer for the first time. I felt very much at home in it. And, the best part was, it has a lovely little bathroom (although when you sit on the toity you can't shut the door) and a cozy little shower. The main area has a very airy feel with white trim and cabinetry. I have accented it with hot pink, purple and orange to give it that ecclectic feel that seems to come naturally to me. Before I leave for Ontario I hope to take Olivia (my 2 year old grandaughter) and my mom camping to a local lake for a few nights. When the kids were small I would take them to my mom's at Oak Lake Beach, so it will be a bit deja vu. At the time, I thought that life was a quite hectic, with three little girls. I would buy them all the same colour bathing suit, so I could keep track of them. Now, I look back on those days with fond memories. You may have heard I am thinking about running away to join the circus. Well, better yet, I'll just start my own. So, we have been brainstorming around the dinner table about what everyone would do and it has been quite entertaining. What would you do in the circus? It is possible. Just give me a shout if you have an inner clown wanting to come out. A little health tip for the summer, drink lemon in your water, it alkalizes the system. Disease cannot survive in an alkaline system. "It is so simple", as Heather would say. She also liked to juice a fresh grapefruit into her water as well..ahhhh...www.th Till next month..happy camping, Bridget July is just about here! 06/28/2010
The beginning of the famous month July is just around the corner. I think it is the most important month of the year, vacations, sun, swimming, happy children and family get togethers. I am attending Vincent Massey's 50th reunion to visit with some old pals. I figure it is a good time to talk about our menopause symptoms since we are all the same age. Menopause has been a time for me to totally reflect on my health. Experiencing what seems like all the dreaded symptoms has me paying close attention to what I put in my body and if my environment is causing me stress. I have been working with Cathy Dupuis of Cathy's Natural Way in Brandon to help regularize my hormones and slowly, it is making a difference. That is the beauty of alternative healing, it may be slow but it has many, many benefits in the long run. I just spent 5 days with my mom (75) and 3 of her friends at a little resort in Clear Lake. It was a good reminder that the body does not last forever and the little ailments turn into big ones. It is a curious thing that we spend all our lives developing skills and information and then at a certain point we start regressing. That beautiful cartwheel that we perfected is no long part of our world. It is lovely to see older gals getting together and enjoying girlfriend time I know it is one of my favourite things to do. I wish for you a warm and friendly summer. Take a few deep breaths every day and think of a few things that you are grateful for. And don't forget to "never worry, and never hurry and take time to smell the roses", as Nettie would say. Love Bridget Spontaneous Healing 06/06/2010
Hey, I made a small mention of Dr. Weil's book on our website but would like to recommend it again. It is called Spontaneous Healing by Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D. "How to discover and enhance you body's natural ability to maintain and heal itself. There are many amazing stories of healing very serious diseases. I love to read it every once in awhile just to remember that there are other ways to go about healing the body than the conventional way. He is one of Heather and my heroes. Heather followed his Eight Weeks to Optimal Health book when curing her Multiple Sclerosis. It is Sunday morning and the weather is not saying come outside, it is saying come to the living room to dance and then maybe some painting. Have a fabulous day folk. Bridget hello 05/28/2010
